The remembrance routes: in the footsteps of the maquis and the SAS commandos, from Normandy to Saône-et-Loire.
The remembrance routes
- 24–26/08/2010 Morvan Maquis Remembrance Route, in the area of the Bernard maquis. Accommodation at Settons-Cottages by the lake. A visit to the St-Brisson museum. 18 participants in 7 jeeps.
- 30/08–4/09/2011 3rd SAS Normandy–Saône-et-Loire Remembrance Route. Its aim was to recall the history of the French SAS commandos led by Guy de Combaud who, having landed in Normandy, crossed occupied France as far as Saône-et-Loire to reinforce the maquis — a mission they carried out to the sacrifice of their lives on 4 September 1944. We followed the Courseulles–Sennecey-le-Grand route from 1 to 3 September 2011, with a stop at Orléans (received by the regional prefect) and at Auxerre (received by local associations). We were 11 participants in 6 jeeps, 3 of them SAS-equipped with dummy machine guns, plus technical support from the SEA with 2 servicemen in a Land Rover.
- 24–27/08/2012 Cluny and Baubery Maquis Remembrance Route. 15 participants in 5 jeeps. Accommodation at Étienne's in Pressy-sous-Dondin.
- 7–9/03/2014 St-Léger-sur-Dheune Armoured Train Remembrance Route. 9 participants in 3 jeeps. Accommodation at the CAF chalet in Vauchignon.
- 8–9/08/2015 Liberation of Autun Remembrance Route. 5 participants in 2 jeeps, accommodation in Gergy.
- 10/03/2016 Arcenant Maquis Remembrance Route, north of Beaune. 12 participants in 4 jeeps. Accommodation in Gergy and at the Chalon-sur-Saône barracks.
- 25–27/10/2019 Morvan Remembrance Route: the Socrate and Bernard maquis, St-Brisson, Dun-les-Places. 8 participants in 4 jeeps. Accommodation in a gîte at Anost.
